Migraine Surgery

Some migraines START at specific points on the face and head. The pain STARTS at one spot, then spreads all over the head. You can often point to this spot with one finger. Those spots are:

1. At the side of the head (above the ear)
2. At the eyebrow (above the eyes)
3. At the back of the head
4. Behind the eyes (nasal sinuses)
5. Top of the head

There is a small nerve just under the skin at those spots. The problem is that, in some migraine patients, this nerve gets squeezed (by a muscle, a blood vessel, or tissue). This squeezing/compression causes inflammation at that spot. The inflammation will then trigger a migraine attack. Migraine surgery works by releasing the nerve from the compression. Only small cuts are needed. Once the nerve is released, the inflammation goes away and the migraine trigger is gone. No more headaches!
